What was the task ?

The current task was to create a 90 second depict video . Depict is an competition where film makers from all around the world are asked to create a 90 second film on any certain budget . All film makers have the chance of winning up to £2500 cash prize when creating a video. The film you create can be of any genre and on any budget but the only rule is the video must be 90 seconds or less. The aim for depict is too see short great films from all across the world.

The film in which our group created was pumpkin carving., We decided a goof film to make would be to show the way in which one group member can carve a pumpkin in order for it to look like Yoda

Discuss camera work:

A lot of the camera work for our video is similar as for most of the video the camera is based on the tripod and a medium length shot. This is very appropriate for our video as viewers would want to see the pumpkin at all times being created into the image of Yoda face. Another shot that is used a few times is a low angle extreme close up. We used this angle to show the audience a closer look at Yoda features and to see the progess of the pumpkin. Another shot we used is a close up. We used this shot a couple of times later in the video to show us turning the light on and also lighting the candle to show the effect of the candle lightning from inside the pumpkin. We also have a high angle shot of the pumpkins flesh being emptied out of the pumpkin and also the head of the pumpkin being lifted of so the candle can be placed inside. This shot was a good shot as the viewers can see the candle being put instead of it just appearing inside.

Discuss mise-en-scene:

Most of the scenes in our video have natural lightening but as these was filmed during different days the lightening obviously changed on the weather and the time of the day. It look like the lighten is the same through the whole video but when the video is speed up you can see the difference in the lightening. This was not really our fault as it was uncontrollable during the different days. The tools we used while creating the video was the camera , tripod, pumpkin and different sized knives. The scene in which we filmed in was at my house in the kitchen, we used this as my house was free and  there was enough space to record in peace thought the days so we could have got the recording done as quick as possible

Discuss editing and continuity:

There was a lot of editing our group had to do in order to get our video as short as possible. The main edit was the speeding up of the whole video. We done this as carving the whole pumpkin took alot of time to make of the course of 6 days. Overall we had about 1 hour and 30mins of actually footage from the pumpkin we carved we managed to edit it by speeding it up and cutting unnecessary bits to make it too 2 mins. Even though we was meant to make it seconds we ran out of time and was unable to finish our editing to make it to that time.As we filmed over a number of days they may have been some continuity errors that occurred for example one of the errors was the clothing on Leonie we was able to see this as she is carving you able to see the different colour in sleeves as the video goes along.Another continuity error that occurred was different movements of the bowl we contained the pumpkin flesh as sometimes it is close to the pumpkin and other times it is further away, this was due to filming on different days but a good thing is the errors was not pointed out in class and are hard

Discuss sound:

In our video that we created there was no dialogue what so ever. Our aim was to get a Halloween themed music to play while the pumpkin was being carved to show the effect and the theme of what we was doing. We couldn't manage to get the soundtrack we wanted imported into the video as we couldn't use the track due to copyright , instead to show that we wanted some audio in and so we would not the soundtrack blank we imported a piece of soundtrack we owned. The soundtrack we imported was a clip on Leonie singing her song. This soundtrack was not as relevant as it could have been as the theme of the video we made was different. This was a last resort in order to give some audio with the video.

Overall what i thought of the video:

I thought the overall idea of the video was a good idea and I liked it how we put all our ideas together for us to finally come up with that idea of drawing Yoda's face on a pumpkin and carving it out.I liked the video overall in general even though I didn't feel like I done much even through me and Courtney was both on camera work and movement of the items. I felt like this as in the video Leonie was the one drawing Yoda's face and carving it out but i was still fully involved in the planning and editing of the video. I think the video is a unique depict video and was created and editing very well. We took alot of time to edit down the video as we fully recorded it at 1 hour and 30minutes , this was good team work as we sat there and picked out bits on each individual clip to speed up and trim. The bit I didnt like most about the video was the soundtrack. Even through it was good singing i didnt think it was really relevant to the video . My overall view of the video is that it was a well created video with relevant camera shots and had a good ending. I had fun doing this video even through there are some points we could have improved on , but as a first assignment i enjoyed doing being part of the group and helping create this video.
